This is the Garden, man's beginning. (…) God loved them so. His prized creations, until he banished them and all of mankind from the perfection of the Garden. And he hid it away.
— The young girl to Jack Kline
in Destiny's Child
Something's different. I mean Jack is, uh -- well, he's been to the Garden. That's the crossroads of divinity and humanity. No one's been there since the exile of humanity until now. Till Jack.

The Garden of Eden is a paradise-like realm created by God that can only be accessed through the Occultum, a small metallic sphere. God created the Garden, which is the safest place in the universe, for some of the first humans. These humans resided in the garden before Lucifer corrupted their minds, and they were subsequently cast out. Castiel referred to the Garden as "the crossroads between divinity and humanity."

History[]

Castiel heavily implied that human beings were developed after billions of years of evolution. God gave them a spiritual essence, known as a soul, and declared them his favorite creations.

God told all the angels in Heaven to bow down before these humans, and serve them. The archangel Lucifer refused to bow down before a species that was younger, and inferior to him. He claimed that they were "flawed, and murderous." He declared war against God and was eventually cast down to Earth.

God then created a secure paradise called the Garden of Eden, which can be accessed by swallowing a small metallic sphere, known as the Occultum. God placed the humans Adam, Lilith and Eve in the Garden to protect them from Lucifer.

Gadreel, God’s most trusted angel, was commanded to guard Eden against the fallen Lucifer, but Lucifer managed to trick Gadreel and sneak into the Garden. As payback for being cast out of Heaven, he corrupted Lilith's soul and made her into the first demon.

Still in the Garden, Lucifer tricked Adam and Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. God cast them out of the Garden for disobeying him and subsequently created a realm called Hell, placing Lucifer and Lilith there. After the creation of the Princes of Hell and the Knights of Hell, God realized Hell alone could not contain Lucifer, so he created a personal cage to keep him contained.

After the fall of humanity, God banished them from the Garden and hid it away. God forbade any human being from entering the Garden again and restricted access to the Garden through the Occultum.

In 2020, the Nephilim Jack Kline was instructed by Billie to find the Occultum as his next step towards becoming strong enough to kill God. After finding the Occultum and reading its instructions, Jack swallowed it and vanished from Earth, and found himself transported to the Garden. There, a seemingly normal young girl greeted him and explained where he was before she walked away and vanished. Jack tried to follow the girl but was drawn to an entity in the form of a snake, who asked Jack who he truly was and who he was meant to become. All of Jack's past memories then flooded his mind, and he collapsed in tears before vanishing from the Garden and reappearing on Earth. On Earth, Castiel told the Winchesters that going to the Garden of Eden, where no being had been since the exile of humanity, had changed Jack. Castiel then revealed that the Garden of Eden had restored Jack's lost soul.

Trivia[]

  • Some people view the garden in Heaven as The Garden of Eden, but this has been disproven.
  • Castiel confirmed in Road Trip that the so-called "Serpent" or "Snake" that entered the Garden (as the entity was called throughout Season 9) was indeed Lucifer; but when Jack entered the Garden in Destiny's Child, there was another serpent which seemed to be a separate entity, and questioned who he truly was.
  • The nature of the girl and the Snake that Jack met in Destiny's Child remain unknown.
    • However, it is very ironic that Amélie Eve is the name of the actress, which may be a possible hint that the girl could be Eve or her manifestation left in the memory of the Garden.

Lore[]

The Garden of Eden (Hebrew: גַּן־עֵדֶן‎ – gan-ʿḖḏen), also called the Terrestrial Paradise, or simply Paradise, is the biblical "Garden of God" described in the Book of Genesis and the Book of Ezekiel. The second part of the Genesis creation narrative, YHWH-Elohim (translated here "the LORD God", see Names of God in Judaism) creating the first man (Adam), whom he placed in a garden that he planted "eastward in Eden". The man was free to eat from any tree in the garden except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Last of all, God made a woman (Eve) from a rib of the man to be a companion for the man. In chapter three, the man and the woman were seduced by the serpent into eating the forbidden fruit, and they were expelled from the garden to prevent them from eating of the tree of life, and thus living forever.

The location of Eden is described in the Book of Genesis as the source of four tributaries. Among scholars who consider it to have been real, there have been various suggestions for its location: at the head of the Persian Gulf, in southern Mesopotamia (now Iraq) where the Tigris and Euphrates rivers run into the sea; and in Armenia. In the Talmud and the Jewish Kabbalah, the scholars agree that there are two types of spiritual places called "Garden in Eden". The first is rather terrestrial, of abundant fertility and luxuriant vegetation, known as the "lower Gan Eden". The second is envisioned as being celestial, the habitation of righteous, Jewish and non-Jewish, immortal souls, known as the "higher Gan Eden". The rabbis differentiate between Gan and Eden. Adam is said to have dwelt only in the Gan, whereas Eden is said never to be witnessed by any mortal eye.

In modern Jewish eschatology it is believed that history will complete itself and the ultimate destination will be when all mankind returns to the Garden of Eden.
