Supernatural is an American paranormal drama television series, filmed in Canada, that debuted on September 13, 2005 on The WB, and is now part of The CW's lineup, where the second season premiered on September 28, 2006, and the third season premiered on October 4, 2007. The fourth season premiered on September 18, 2008.
The show follows brothers Sam Winchester and Dean Winchester, played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles respectively, who travel across the country in a black 1967 Chevy Impala investigating and combating paranormal events and other unexplained occurrences, many of them based on American urban legends and folklore as well as classic supernatural creatures such as vampires, werewolves, and ghosts.
Creator Eric Kripke cites Neil Gaiman's The Sandman and American Gods as influences on Supernatural, along with American Werewolf in London and Joseph Campbell's The Hero's Journey. On May 15, 2007, Supernatural was officially renewed for a full third season of 22 episodes. Although, because of the WGA strike, only 16 episodes of the third season will air. On March 3, 2008, The CW announced the renewal of the show for a fourth season. On February 24, 2009, The CW announced the renewal of the show for a fifth season.

Actor Jared Padalecki states that a renewal for a fifth season is uncertain, despite a powerful boost in ratings. He also says that series creator Eric Kripke is preparing a series ending climax that would wrap everything up at the end of this season. Kripke is planning to end it all this spring, but if there is a last minute pick-up, he does have a cliffhanger waiting in the wings that will be added at the last second.
Jared says that if the series continues into a fifth season, it would for sure be the show's last.
Sad news. Supernatural and X-Files director Kim Manners has died. The cause was cancer.
