The group splits up to investigate and Velma who has taken an interest in Sam tells him to join her in the attic. While there Velma remarks on Sam's shoulders, as he is confused by her talking about his shoulders and she shyly shrugs it off before remarking on tries to tell Velma that the supernatural is real, but she denies it, firmly believing all ghosts and monsters are just people in costumes. However, once the Brothers are forced to reveal the supernatural's existence after Shaggy is injured by the Phantom, Velma and the Gang have a nervous breakdown as Velma realizes that her scientific logic no longer applied to the situation. However, they are stopped by Dean and Sam, who remind them that while they may not have tangled with the supernatural, they still have their own accomplishments such as defeating past villains, thus motivating the Gang into helping, although they are still highly inexperienced and unused to stopping real ghosts.

The gang succeeds in capturing the ghost in he end, but Sam and Dean, knowing the Scooby Gang could not handle the reality of the situation after watching Velma scamper for a shotgun with her friends, once again hid the truth by pretending in was Cosgood Creeps in disguise the whole time, with Velma guessing the bodies were just dummies filled with corn syrup after all, much to their relief. Velma is satisfied with the result and teases Sam that the supernatural isn't real. As Sam bid Velma farewell, Velma grabbed Sam, dipped him, then and kissed him on the lips. This surprised Sam, who looked after her with a smile. This prompted to Dean that he "should've known Velma was good to go", and that "it's always the quiet ones". After they got out and had Jay arrested, Sam commented that "Velma was right" about the whole thing being the work of a "shady real estate developer" after all.
